Student Profile: Alana Green, 2023 Emily Scott Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Bright Minds and the Scott family are proud to support Centennial High School 2023 graduate Alana Green in her college journey! During her senior year, Alana was a recipient of the Emily Scott Memorial Scholarship, awarded to outstanding HCPSS students who demonstrate kindness and acceptance of others.

What does the Emily Scott Memorial Scholarship mean to you?
This award means so much because acts of kindness are often overlooked in today’s society. I appreciate being recognized for something that I’ve always strived to do.
What college or university do you attend? University of Maryland Eastern Shore
If you could pick three words to describe the road that eventually led you to UMD Eastern Shore what would they be?
Community, Family and Flexibility.
What is your major?I’m majoring in Biology & Pre Allied Health.
What hobbies, clubs or activities have you joined while in college?
Currently, I am an Honors Vanguard, Manager for the Men’s Basketball Team, and UMES Community Herb Garden Manager.
What is your favorite part of attending college?
Freedom! I like that you can take classes that interest you or fulfill something you’re passionate about.
Describe your post-college goals/dreams?
I hope to attend nursing school and become a geriatric nurse.
What are some of your favorite memories or experiences from high school?
One of my favorite memories from high school was hosting the annual Food for the Soul, Words for the Heart event as the co-president of the Scholars Leadership Program. I also enjoyed participating in the school’s theater program.
What is one piece of advice you have for future graduating high school students?
Regardless of how scared you may be at the moment, try to go after every opportunity available to you! Make the most of these next few years, and live with no regrets!
