Bright Minds, the official foundation of The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS), announces that Jada Windsor-Reedy is the 2019 recipient of the Sydney L. Cousin Memorial Scholarship. Windsor-Reedy graduated from Howard High School in May 2017. She went on to attend Howard Community College and completed the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree program in May 2019.
Windsor-Reedy has dreamed of being a teacher since she was young. She shares, “As a kid, I used to make my younger sisters play my students. Thanks to my high school intern/mentor student experience, I was given first-hand experience in the field and was sure of my decision to pursue education.”
Windsor-Reedy will attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the fall. She plans to become a high school English or dance teacher. Her desire is to help high school students figure out what they want to do and understand how to take concrete steps toward fulfilling their dreams. She is the first in her family to go to college and sees herself as a role model for her four younger siblings and cousins. She wants them to recognize that “breaking familial patterns is possible with hard work and motivation.”
Dr. Cousin was superintendent of the Howard County Public School System from July 2004 until his retirement in July 2012. He passed away after a long illness in August 2018. The scholarship in his name recognizes his many contributions to the Howard County community and seeks to encourage young people to make a difference through a career in education.
